Many bloggers and business owners don’t realise the importance of building an email list when they are first starting out, or they do, but they have doubt’s on how to get subscribers or how to send the perfect newsletters.
I’m here to tell you why an email list is vital, and why you shouldn’t wait till you master it, but should instead start building one now and figure it out as you go!
Why an email list is important
1. Email is personal – Email allows you to land in someone’s inbox. There is no ranking system to compete with, it’s direct.
2. Email comes with intent – You don’t just end up in someone’s inbox. To get updates from you someone has intentionally filled out a form, or with a double opt-in even confirmed the subscription. This makes everyone you send an email to that much more receptive to your message.
3. Email is targeted – Since email is opt-in from your visitors, you already know what they like, allowing you to tailor your content and offers to people you already understand, giving great results.
4. You own your list – You’re not at the mercy of Google to rank your webpage, or Facebook to show you in the News Feed. Your list is yours.
Why you shouldn’t wait
Email is a powerful tool and if done from the beginning, can be the means to which you generate your first sales. Don’t wait till you’ve create the best subscription form, or the best lead magnet to get email addresses. Put a subscription form on your site from the beginning, and perfect it over time.
If you wait, by the time you get around to it you could already have had 1000 subscribers.
I know people who’ve spent years in the planning phase, years wasted that they could have spent running a business and perfecting it over time instead. Or at least proving the business concept they’re planning for…
I agree with this solely because you should always execute and learn as you go, and not wait.
