    Hello SEO Experts,

I have read a lot of posts to familiarise myself with SEO, however what I am unsure of is how good a strategy it is to use Web 2.0 sites such as forums, social media, etc, for SEO purposes.

Like using them to create content and post backlinks.

How good is the link quality and are the user created pages on these sites indexed so that they will generate link juice?

These days Google cares more about content than backlinks.

And generally when you’re posting your own backlink like with web 2.0 user-driven sites, the backlinks have little to even no value. You may even be penalised for spamming.

If you want to use web 2.0 sites for SEO purposes, you’ll find it to be a colossal waste of time and effort.

Wow, thanks for the brutal answer. I’ll focus on other means of getting backlinks.

One true backlink beats 20 web 2.0 backlinks everyday.

Trying this spam is playing a childish SEO game in a grownup search world.

Google will geo tag, mac address tag, and router tag and see that it’s all coming from you across multiple websites, and not unique users recommending your site.

Even if you’re not penalised, you’ll get no traffic and no value.

The only thing you should use web 2.0 sites for is to contribute and be helpful and to gt community members to want to visit your site through a forum signature or link on your profile page.

Use them for community engagement, not SEO.

I think that’s what I’ll use it for instead then. Just as a way of being helpful to gain loyal followers. Thanks!
