When creating a blog, you want to choose the right platform. WordPress is specially designed for blogging, and best of all it’s free, making it an excellent platform to create a blog at 0 cost to you.
I recommend creating a self-hosted WordPress.org website, so that you can create a blog under your own domain name, and with your own style, to help it stand out. WordPress.org sites comes with thousands of designs and add-ons, meaning you can create the perfect blog to suit your style and voice.
Then, where’s the cost?
WordPress is indeed free, but going the self hosted route, you’ll need to arrange your own domain name and hosting, which costs a small amount of money.
A domain name is your address on the internet, and is what people will type in to view your blog (For example, onlineincome.com and google.com).
Next, your WordPress will need hosting, which is like the land the address sits on, which you can build your site on top of.
A domain name typically costs around $14.99/year and hosting about $7.99/month.
I understand that this can be A LOT for those just starting out. Fortunately, I have a solution.
Thankfully, Bluehost, has agreed to offer our users an exclusive offer that gives our users a FREE domain name and over 60% off on web hosting, to help our users start out!
Bluehost is one of the LARGEST hosting companies in the world, and as an official WordPress recommended partner, specialises at making sure your blog will always run smoothly.
They have been working with WordPress since 2005, and have been tailoring their solutions around WordPress as its grown and developed into the giant it is today.
Setting up the domain and hosting
First, you’ll need to visit the Bluehost website and click on the green “Get Started Now” button.
This will take you to a pricing page where you can select a plan for your website. Basic and plus are the most popular choices.
Select which plan you’d like and then continue to the next step.
On the next screen, you’ll be asked to choose a domain name for your new site.
Ideally, you should stick to a .com domain name. Make sure the name is related to your blog, easy to spell, and easy to remember.
After choosing your domain name, click next to continue.
You’ll now be asked to enter some information for your new account. On this screen, you will also be asked if you want to add any extras. We generally don’t recommend adding these extras now. They can always be purchased later on, if you decide you need them.
Next, you’ll be taken to a payment screen to finalize your new domain and hosting.
After completing your purchase, you’ll receive an email with the login details to your hosting dashboard. From here, you’ll be able to manage everything, like getting support, setting up email, etc.
Most importantly, from here, we’ll be able to install WordPress.
