4 – Choosing a Theme

    Topic Progress:

The visual appearance of your WordPress site is controlled by a WordPress theme.

Different WordPress themes can be installed on your blog to change its appearance until you find the perfect one for you.

By default, each WordPress site comes with a basic theme. If you visit your website after WordPress has freshly been installed, it will look something like this:

This is not very appealing for most users.

But don’t worry! There are thousands of free and paid WordPress themes available, that you can install on your site.

You can change your theme from your WordPress admin dashboard. Visit Appearance >> Themes and click on “Add New” to view all the free themes that are available from the official WordPress.org themes directory. You can sort them by popular, latest, featured, as well as other feature filters.

Have a look around to find your perfect theme, and once you’ve found it, click the install button to load it onto your blog.

If you’re stuck, we recommend Bento as an excellent, free, multi-purpose theme with flexible design options to suit all needs.

Once you have installed your Theme, you can customize it by clicking on the Customize link under the Appearance menu.

This will launch the theme customizer where you will be able to change your blogs look and see a live preview of the results.

Let’s take a closer at customizing your site to perfection in the next lesson topic.
